Micro Loans

I know we have discussed this before on somebody's blog: micro loans. Can those of you that participate let me know what companies or organizations you use? Also are any of these micro loans here in the United States?

I'm just feeling the need to spread the wealth to others. I have earned about $84 from my recent eBay sales. I could have just donated the items, but I chose to sell them. I'm thinking I may keep half for college books and miscellaneous and the other could be provided to a micro loan. I am expected that I will have more in eBay sales soon to add to that amount.

    Kiva is one that has been mentioned. It's run from the US. Joan of the Arch and patient saver both mentioned it last year. It's the only one I've tried - I've been funding for four years - and I'm relatively happy with them.

    @bluesfemme, thank you! That sounds familiar now. It didn't come up in my first Google search. Now you have me wondering where Joan of the Arch is! She hasn't been around lately.

You can also donate to help keep the Kiva site itself running, and those donations are tax deductible. As the loans are paid back, you can re-loan the money without running back through your accounts, or you can receive it back into your own bank account.

    Yes, I like Kiva a lot. You get enough personal detail and photos to make you feel your loan is being put to good use. You can segregate the hundreds of people looking for a loan by country of origin such as the US, but the greatest need is coming from other countries.
