Witnessed a Theft

March 25th, 2016 at 02:31 pm

I witnessed a theft from a store earlier this week. It was around 6pm. I was in a retail area to take my daughter to her flute lesson. I drove behind Bed Bath and Beyond to see a man with a full cart running. Then I noticed another man running after him. The thief was heading to a get away car driven by someone else. In the end he abandoned the cart and pulled a pillow off the top, hopped in the car and they drove away.

I stopped by the other man who had grabbed the cart. He was a worker at the store. I didn't offer to submit a report nor did he indicate he would call police. We just both agreed it was crazy and stupid. Apparently, this happens with some frequency there!

My only goal was to stay safe and maybe see a license plate number. The thieves were smart to have removed their plate...so I couldn't help in that way. I did notice the items being stolen were towels and bedding.

Have you witnessed a theft?

I just witnessed an attempted theft of a phone, on the bus last week. A guy tried to grab it out of another passenger's hand just as the bus arrived at a stop. Apparently she was holding pretty tight, because the phone slipped out of both their hands and clattered to the floor and the guy dashed out the back door before the rest of us realized what was happening.

The woman just grabbed her phone and sat back down. She said she didn't want to file a report either. Hopefully these failures and near misses deter the would-be thieves for a while at least!

Three times. Once at a department store that only had one entrance/exit. A man dashed right through with a package of underwear. The security guard told me something about why they didn't stop him or go after him, but I don't remember the reason....Another time at Walgreens. Again, a man zipped through the exit with a bar of Dial brand soap....The third was from my own front yard. I saw a stranger kid take a basketball, but I was on my way out and couldn't stop. But I recognized the kid from a few blocks away. So after my errand I stopped at the house where the kid lived and there he was bouncing the ball on bare dirt. I told him I'd seen him take the ball. He let me take it back without protest, though without apology either.

But, wow, trying to steal a whole cartful of home soft goods?!

When I lived in Florida, my house got robbed. I am so happy to live here. The poeple that just bought our spec house are from Fla. They could not believe that the appliances sat in their new house in the living room for 2 months, with no one taking them.(with the key above the door) The first thing they did was put in wall to wall blinds in the house.
I have lived here 32 years and have never had a single blind in my house!
