Getting Ready for Jonas

January 21st, 2016 at 09:56 pm

It seems the state we live in now is going to get hit by Jonas, the winter storm. We are actually on the edge of it, which means ice in the form of sleet and freezing rain are most likely.

I think the entire state is shutting down starting tonight. The post my husband works on is going to be closed tomorrow(I found out first from Facebook). And school has been cancelled too. And for the record it is forty degrees and sunny at the moment. No precipitation is falling in our location. Seems so early to make these decisions. Weather can and does change right?

So we have food here, but my husband is going to grab some nuts, canned tuna, and bottled water just in case there is a power outage. We do have plenty of bread and peanut butter too.

Who else is going to be impacted by Jonas?

I can't remember where you moved but it sounds like how Virginia used to react at any threat of snow. Now I live in Minnesota and my kids trudge through driving snow in subzero temps to get to the bus and don't think much of it. LOL such a difference from my childhood! I do understand, though, that people in Va. don't have the right clothes or driving experience for snowy weather, so it makes sense for them to be prudent. I just think, as you say, they sometimes overreact or jump the gun!

@ceejay, I haven't specifically mentioned my state (my husband's preference, for security purposes), but yes the lack of driving experience is probably one of the biggest issues. They have equipment to put brine on the roads...which I was surprised to see. We will just stay home and pray the power stays on!

I'll be hunkering down for the storm, too. My area is a disaster zone with any form snow, so I will just stay home and away from all that mess!

Yes, we'll get it in CT. We're due to see snow falling definitely by 1 pm Saturday and thru Sunday a.m. so I'll be sure to stock up, get my errands done earlier on Saturday.

    Be safe.

Stay safe. We had torrential rain and my car engine flooded out. Long story short, pulled it home from up the street and praying it dries out and starts in the morning.

@Laura S., wow, so sorry about your car. I also hope it starts in the morning for you. That tells me there is a lot of moisture in the air down there!

Jonas sounds nasty. Lots of people will be affected. I hope things turn out as well for you as they can.

PS, when did they start naming winter storms? I don't remember that.

I think the winter storm naming has been in the last couple years. And why they do it I'm not sure.

I think we'll not be feeling it's affects here. Hope your power stays on!
