A Free Meal

November 12th, 2014 at 02:04 am

We did end up eating at Chili's for lunch today. The burger we ordered was free since my husband is a veteran. It was nice to have a meal out together since that is rare.

My husband also got his haircut free at Great Clips. We skipped the yogurt and coffee that was also free, as we didn't need the caffeine nor the calories of yogurt.

We stopped in at Joann's Fabric where I spent $2.56 on a gift after an additional 20% off our purchase with the military discount offered.

It was tempting to do some more shopping, but in the end we both really were not up for it. I guess that saved us some money.

There was snow blowing around this morning, but it really didn't amount to much here. With the windchill it was only 8 degrees this morning. Quite an abrupt change after nearly 60 degrees yesterday. This means the furnace is running longer.

Our neighbors across the street have put their house up for sale. I haven't been in their home, but found out from the listing they only have a finished bathroom in their basement. We have nearly 800 more square feet of finished space, including an extra bedroom. I think the house is priced competitively. I will be interested to see how fast it sells, as there are several homes in the area for sale right now. Winter tends to be slow, but not completely stagnant.

I ordered my husband's Christmas gift today. I bid on an eBay item and was outbid already. I found another one to bid on. I may not end up with the item, but figure I have a few weeks to bid before I have to purchase at full price.

Did your temperatures drop today?

Thank you to your husband for his service to Our Country. There has been lots of complaining around my FB page about the politics and the election. I am grateful for the freedoms we have. I am so glad that you were able to enjoy your day out together. Smile

My husband got his free haircut today too! Unfortunately his grandfather passed away yesterday, so he wanted to look fresh for the funeral on Thursday. It's very nice of companies to do things like that for our veterans.

I am stumped on what to get my husband for Christmas. Over the years, I've already bought him every sports, camping, fishing, etc accessory I can think of!

It was about 70 here today but the high by the weekend is only supposed to be in the low 40s. Definitely chilly for Virginia at this time of year! I'm a born and bred New Yorker though, so I can take it Smile

@frugalredhead, I'm getting my husband a display for his military challenge coins, plus a few extra that can be bought for sentimental purposes.

What are military challenge coins? We did see a lot of neat things when we took the kids to the Marine Corp museum a year or two ago, maybe I can find some Marine Corp stuff for him!

My husband has received them from superiors for various reasons over the years. They all vary and can be very specific to units. Look

The temperature dropped dramatically today. Yesterday was 65, today was 43. The wind chill is vicious, though. It may freeze tonight. It certainly smells like it.

We planned to go to Remembrance Military events in our city. We'd had an incredible snow storm Sunday/Monday and the roads were treacherous A 20 minute trip to the Military Museum too over an hour and by the time we arrived there was no parking available. This is an outdoor service @ minus 16 C today and ultimately we gave up and returned home to watch the National ceremony which was touching. Both DH and I feel really bad that we were unable to leave our poppies at the Cenotaph to acknowledge those that died as is the custom here.

It has been COLD here. Way Cold.

@FT, Welcome to NE weather. It can get colder you know!

Yep, I know. Just don't figure on being so cold inside a building! The heat on my side of the building was not working today. I wore my jacket pretty much the whole day and was still cold. I was prepared for slightly chilly, but not having it be pretty much the same temp inside as outside (minus windchill.)
