Another Snowflake

October 16th, 2014 at 09:36 pm

I had $12.66 in rewards on the US Bank Cash+ Visa that I redeemed the other day. These are primarily the result of getting 5% cash back on our cell phone bill. I didn't remember to match those, so now will need to make another mortgage payment to pay down some more principal!

The bills are paid. I have paid all but one credit card in full. No interest is being charged, and now that we finally got the back pay for promotion we can starting doing good things with the extra funds. I won't have all that figured out likely until the next paycheck at the beginning of November. Something to look forward to.

I made a donation to a charity last night for a walk we are participating in. We will need gas to travel and some cash for lunch while we are there. I feel good about that cause.

I also need to pick up the senior pictures! I have $50 deposit down right now, but need to pay another $100 to pick up the proofs and take them home. I could just look in the studio, but that seems like too much pressure.

Any snowflakes (extra money) come your way recently?

    I have a USB Cash+ card too, and if you wait to redeem until you have $100 saved up, they send you a bonus $25 Visa gift card! Once I figured this out, I waited until I had that (and more). I redeemed exactly $100 so the remainder could go toward building it up again.

    Is that $25 bonus just once? I know I redeemed it once in the beginning of getting the card. I'll look into it further.

    I think it's every time...I haven't received the card but I'm pretty sure they promised another one. Will keep you posted!

    Yes, let me know. If that is the case I will let them add up to get that extra $25. I do see reference to it on some review sites that say every time. Still looking around the US Bank site for clarification.

    Yes, I have had some interesting snowflakes recently. We refied our mortgage at the end of September and so had no October mortgage payment. That extra money has allowed us to 1) make a down payment on another new window, 2) pay an extra $125.00 towards the credit cards, mostly on cc #2, and 3) put an extra $20.00 into my slush fund. I still have not spent all the extra mortgage money. We also got some kind of refund after our refi, only $25.23, and I immediately put that on cc #1. I got my rebates back from mrrebates int the amount of $11.10 and I also put that on cc #1. I ordered different copies of the same book from Alibris (sellers were out of stock both times) and my orders were cancelled both times. The refunds amounted to $32.48 which I put on one of the credit cards.

    @BAWW, I opened the Discover checking account recently. How long did it take to get your $50?

    I opened it in September so about a month. I think its neat how they pay you 10 cents for doing things like paying with your card, paying bills and writing checks. So far I've earned 50 cents and that's just for half of September.

    Thanks, BAWW. That is helpful. It is an interesting checking account concept.

    @crazyliblady, you are doing great!!

    @ceejay, I did see some wording on the Wise Bread blog that the US Bank Cash+ can be redeemed for that extra $25 gift card once per year when you redeem $100 in rewards. I would guess that may be how long it would take me to accumulate that much. I think I had decided to get the rewards redeemed and applied to the mortgage to meet our goal this year. Now that I can see the light at the end of the tunnel on that, I will start saving up for $100 worth of rewards.
