Mortgage Principal Payment

July 1st, 2013 at 09:15 pm

I sent $56 toward the principal on our mortgage today. This is money from Swagbucks and Pinecone surveys that I accumulated in June. Our regular payment was pending and the bank will add it to our regular payment to pull one payment from our bank account. I was able to specify that the money will go to principal.

It does seem strange to make a little extra payment, but I know that the small amounts add up to make a difference. It feels good to put money I don't need to live on to make a difference in our debt, which is the mortgage at this point.

Our goal isn't to pay it off, but to be in a good position when we need to sell for the next Army move. Luckily we have a few more years here to make a little difference. Smile

Did you make an extra principal payment on your mortgage this month? Was your extra payment over or under $100?

My extra principal payment this month is $27.03. I know, not a lot, but it brings the balance to an amount ending in an even $100. Smile

We've cut about 3 years off our 15 year mortgage by adding little amounts here and there. Sometimes as low as $14, but it all adds up over the life of the loan.

Like Laura, I used to send in whatever it took to make it to a round number if I didn't have enough for a whole extra month--which was always my goal.

Ours would be easy to round up...just an extra $17 a month. I think I'll start to do that, but then add the snowflakes after that...so still might not be an even number.

$90 this month! We had a $50 credit card reward and a $40 refund that we applied to the mortgage. The bulk of our snowflakes go to our mortgage.

I do about an extra $33 per month to round it up to $950 total. Every bit helps!
