My husband came home from his Army job last night, walked in the door, and said "I don't know if you had plans, but we can't spend any money."
What?
He was talking to others at work about the governments sequestration plans that take place at the end of the year. They are worried about their pay being affected since the Department of Defense has to make some serious cuts over the next several years. I don't know all the facts, but I did find online that military pay (basic, housing and subsistence)are exempt from cuts.
So since he suddenly wasn't worried about his pay, we went out to lunch today. We did use a coupon for one free meal. We spent about $11.
I thought his reaction was a bit funny coming from him, but even though he does have a pretty steady government job it is important to realize his pay and his job can be effected, just like any other.
Do you think your job would ever be downsized or effected by the economy? If not, why?

If I was downsized, I know things would be very tough. I am working on getting a lot more into emergency savings and pay off the credit cards, as well as save to replace my aging car and have work done on the house. I don't want to go into debt for any of those things if I can help it.
If I were asked to take a furlough day, which is possible although it has never happened to me, it may save my employer money, but my work must still be done no matter what. So, it's pretty much a wash.
