A $10 Sale

October 30th, 2012 at 01:53 pm

I sold an HD TV antenna on craigslist yesterday. It was an ad I had put up two weeks ago, that I renewed to bring to the top of the list again. The woman responded almost immediately!

That's $10 more in the Christmas Fund (excess to go to truck loan)!!

Keep your eyes open for things around you that someone else might want...and list them for FREE on craigslist. It means more money in your pocket!

This morning I read a magazine article that stated most households had about $ 7,000. of merchandise in their homes that they never used and could be sold without being missed. Since the money was already spent and is not recoverable, it would be better to sell for even 5% than to let it morph into clutter taking up space and having to be looked after.

Craigslist has made it so easy to bless someone else with items we don't use and they would enjoy. Terrific you've sold the no longer needed HD antenna

You do such a great job of selling on Ebay and Craigs' list...I'm just amazed at how hard you've worked to get that Christmas fund "funded".

I have a question about Craigs' List...I've never sold on it and wondered if you meet the people who are buying some place other than your house? That's always worried me about selling on it. Thanks and I hope you find a lot more to pass on to someone who wants it!

@livefree, I actually always have people meet me at my home. Usually with my husband home, but not always. If he's not home, I tell someone else (a neighbor or friend) that someone is coming and I have my phone nearby, too. Everyone that has shown up has always been legit and decent. Most don't come inside, unless it is a big item like a large piece of furniture.

I would suggest a public place, maybe a drug store or mall, to meet someone. In that case you need to give some sort of way to identify each other.

A garage sale is a good one or two day way to sell things, too! Don't forget to advertise on craigslist. Smile

When I was doing a good bit of selling on Craigslist, I would meet the people in a McDonald's parking lot - always during daylight. It was about a 30 second drive from where I lived, but it was public and didn't give away my location. (something I had to be careful of being single!)

Thanks so much, CC Free. I'm just a little leary about letting people come to my house because I live in the country. I'm probably going to try to learn about selling on Ebay first: that may be a better idea. The garage sale suggestion is a good one: that is a "middle ground" between Ebay and Craig's list . Good luck with more snowflakes!

Laura, I had to laugh at the McDonald's suggestion because it is a terrific one. Thank you, too. I wonder how much business is conducted at McDonald's over a cup of coffee. I know I've done my share. :-)
