We Have Library Cards

July 16th, 2012 at 09:24 pm

We now have library cards for our new town. We actually have a very small library in our town, but we have access to the library in the big town right next to us. That's two cards and about four libraries we have access to!

It was hard to go so long without checking out books particularly for my oldest daughter. She reads so much so fast, we would spend a lot on books if it were not for the library.

Do you use your library? Does anyone not have access to one? What do you do to keep your book spending down?

Your daughter may benefit from a Kindle Electronic Reader as they give electronic access to library books from all libraries without physically getting there. There are a lot of free books available as well.

There are likely gently used versions available from people who get them as gifts or from employers. It takes a few days to adjust to reading from an iPad, Kindle, Nook etc but it's no more difficult an adjustment than getting bills electronically than snail mail.

I've been told by a library director that I am considered a heavy library user. I constantly have books out from the library. I love, love, love the library!!! Their online hold system is wonderful and I've never minded waiting to get the latest best seller because I have such a long list of books I want to read!

If I do find a book I must own, I usually try to get it used--through half.com or other such sites.

I use my library a lot. Smile unfortunately my book spending has skyrocketed in conjunction with my library visits (all books for the library of course) Smile Seriously though .. I have a decent sized library in big G which so far has had most of the non- childrens books I've wanted. I haven't used it a lot due to trying to keep up with reading the books Im putting into my schools library.

Love, love, love my library! Use it often! I do have a Nook Color that does hook up to the library but I was disappointed to find that most of the books are old.....I am looking for current/best sellers by my favorite authors. I check their websites frequently to see when they have a new book coming out and just check with the library online to see when it is available. I can put a book on "hold" and they notify me via email when it is available for pick up....they also notify you when a book is coming due. I do purchase books for my Nook but not often, trying to keep costs down! Glad to hear your family is now set up! Smile

Big library users! We have a local library in our town that's part of our county library system that not too long ago merged with the Minneapolis library system that created a 41 library system. Applying for library cards would have been early on our to-do list too!

Our library system is the whole county. So one card works for all (7?) in the county. The neat thing for us is that the library in our town is like two blocks from our house.
