A Small Expense

March 18th, 2011 at 09:10 pm

I did end up with one expense yesterday. A health item I decided I needed before the end of the month. Cost $5.06.

My parents are visiting for the weekend. My mom is bringing some food. I'm making us homemade pizza for dinner tonight with items already on hand. We will probably eat out for lunch tomorrow to celebrate my oldest daughter's upcoming birthday. It will be their treat. We are visiting a free museum, too. I think I might get away without spending any money until Sunday. It's been a good spring break with minimal expenses. I noticed I still have quite a bit of fuel left in the van that I hope can make it through most of next week. Yipee!!

We're having Spring Break the week of 3/28 to 4/1, and I've got some things planned with coupons and budgeted expenses.

What did you end up doing to keep your spending down?

One daughter attended at sleepover. We have been watching the neighbors cats, which require about an hour of our time each day. We visited the library twice, so there has been lots of reading. We borrowed a wii game that has been played quite a bit. We took a bike ride and a long walk. We have watched a couple movies on Netflix...Alice in Wonderland with Johnny Depp was instant watch and we have not seen it. We did scrapbooking with items on hand. We have made a few treats at home...brownies and muffins. Today I had the girls help me clean for my parents arrival. It has gone quick!! Overall, staying home and keeping to free entertainment has kept our spending down this week.

I've got the library down for beginning of the week (for books/DVDs/wii games), Morton Arboretum (my parents have a membership) and lunch at Culvers (I have enough coupons for three free kid meals and a coupon for an adult basket - cheap eats), bike and scooter ride to Grandma's (2 miles), a trip to the movies (have purchased gift card for tickets and have stockpiled snacks from coupons), and Museum of Science of Industry (we have a membership, so it will be gas and cheap parking). I also anticipate some play dates.

I don't want to overbook, so I think I'll have the kids rank their choices and then go from there.

Sounds like a lovely Spring Break!!
