It won't happen to us

Layoffs!

My husband works full time for the US Army Reserves, also known as, The Government. I'm usually not a big fan of government, but in this case when it comes to his job security I'm thrilled!

In fact, he is scheduled to get a raise, of 3.9% courtesy of Congress. Any one else out there getting a raise this year?

If you have been laid off, I wish you god speed in locating that perfect (or less than perfect) source of income. You might even look into working for the government!

Paralegal here, I received a 10.6% raise (still in the experience equals more money phase). Husband could potentially end up laid off because he works in the mortgage industry but he has already survived a lot of layoffs so we will see. It makes for a nice balance that my job is fairly secure while his is not, especially since we can survive on my income.

Yup, getting a raise. IT's a good time to be a CPA or a nurse. (I throw in nurse because their industry has been very similar lately - huge shortage of qualified workers means huge job security for the rest of us).

I work in the oil and gas industry as an engineering tech asst. My job itself I think is pretty secure (theya are talking about hiring some more people in the near future). But as far as a raise goes? Nope, don't see it coming anytime soon, if ever.
