Might Need A New Computer

March 18th, 2016 at 02:09 pm

My computer is dying. My daughter says I don't realize how slow it is. I think I do, but just deal with it. It seems that as of last night, the sound card no longer works. Play videos with volume on high and hear nothing. Reboot doesn't fix it. And today, I can't seem to get my Fitbit to charge using the USB charger. I have it now charging on my husband's computer with no issues.

The plan has been to get a new computer, likely an Apple this year. Although, I was hoping for later in the year! We have two Dell computers now. It's tempting to think we could get by with one computer, but I've seen in recent weeks that my husband is using his much more for a class he is taking for work. He has to log in for class every other week. And at the same time he is working, our daughter is needing a computer to do her homework. We need two at this point.

The good news is we can probably pick up the computer we need at the Exchange on post for a slight discount and avoid paying taxes. We will need to do some more research to figure out which computer is right for our needs.

I do feel I need to start working on this fast, as I'm not sure how long the whole computer will even hold up. I don't want to lose any information! Much of it is backed up in other places, just not all of it. Something I will be working on as soon as I can.

Who has an Mac? Which one do you have? Tips on which one to pick?

I've an 11" MacAir which I love for portability and easy usage which are extra at APPLE outlet. I see nearly new laptops offered for sale regularly as people accept new positions and get laptops from employers, making their purchase redundant.

It has been wonderful except after a year, it acts up on SA, only SA...I complain that sentences vanish in cyberspace between written and 'submit.' It doesn't always 'play nice' with my Samsung SCX 3400 printer but likely operator and location issues.

We bought our first apple product iMac in 2007 20 inches. To this day, it works. I did upgrade the hard drive to Solid State drive and made it so fast. You can't go wrong with iMac and they last for years, in our case almost a decade. Don't have to worry about virus or anything...its just keeps ticking. I also have pro-Mac book I bought 2 years ago, mainly for video editing & photos but I used it pretty much on anything. I don't think we can ever go back to Window.

We are looking to upgrade our iMac in a few years once our daughter is a bit older.

We have 3 Macs at home now. I have both a MacBook Pro and a MacAir for work and DH has a Mac mini for his online pursuits. They are expensive, but for us completely worth the investment.

I was trying to say I bought a 6 month old MacAir, in it's original box for a discounted priced and the young owner included an extra long power cord and extra plug as these are easily snapped if handled roughly. I see these advertised on FB as new hire's are often given a laptop by employers.
