My 8 year old wants to...

take piano lessons. Unfortunately, we don't have a piano. I could get one from my sister...she lives three hours away. But my sister was looking forward to having it.

I'll have to look into renting or finding a give away piano. I don't even know what the least expensive type costs.

She took dance lessons this year and has decided she doesn't want to continue. I had no idea she had an interest in piano! I could have been saving for this.

Interesting how children's interests change! How does one plan for that. Of course, if it turns out we can't afford it then it won't be an option and she'll have to find something else.

I'm off to look at craigslist!

    What state are you in? I have a piano I will sell cheap. My daughter used to take lessons but has since lost interest.

    maybe if you paid for a couple of lessons with someone who has a piano first to see if your daughter likes it. my little brother and sister have always started something (soccer, hockey, football, singing lessons, pilates, dancing etc) and lose interest after the first few sessions. it might save a bit of money on buying a piano if you first see if she REALLY likes it.

    reflectionite...you make a good point! I do have a neighbor who would probably let her practice a bit. I would expect to have her take lessons in someone's home that already owns a piano.

    littlemama...yep, Texas is too far. Thanks for the offer. I would suggest craigslist.org if you really want to get rid of it.

    I'd suggest looking on craigslist or ebay for a good used electric piano. Make sure that it has at least 5 octaves, full size keys and touch-sensitive keys. There are numerous advantages to electric. It is cheaper. It is portable. It never needs to be tuned. It has a headphone jack so darling child can practice without disturbing anyone else (LOL). Yamaha is tops in the field.
