Taxes Filed, But Not Paid

March 31st, 2014 at 02:44 am

I finally filed our tax returns on FreeTaxUSA. I paid $9.72 to file both returns. I even went through Ebates to get another 25% back. Smile

As I have known for awhile, we owe $413 in Federal taxes. The first time we have owed in quite some time, but not a big deal. I will likely write a check, to avoid any additional fees from using a credit card. If I needed to pay right away or meet a credit card spending requirement then I would be willing to pay the fee.

I will send the payment in the next two weeks, of course, so that we aren't late. Have you filed your taxes? Are you waiting until the last minute because you owe money?

Taxes done last month and we received a refund from both the state and feds. This will most likely be the last year we will receive a refund as next year, we will not be able to claim dd2 any longer. We don't plan to receive a refund, but we were able to take advantage of some credits this year which resulted in the refunds. We will be looking at adjusting some things (I have already increased my sep ira contribution), so we won't owe tons next year.

My rough calculation earlier confirmed I owe something over $ 4,300. Trying to stay positive since it results from capital gains bumping my income in ways I never anticipated. I do much better guessing DH's taxable income. I was surprised that most are not choosing to pay electronically from bank to IRS.

I get mine back from the accountant tomorrow. I know I am getting a refund, always do because of the business. I can never adjust withholdings enough to break even. The write offs vary every year.

Very few of my clients use the automatic draft for tax payment, but most use the direct deposit option for their refund. I think it's a lack of trust. Wink (I have a few hold-outs that still refuse to file electronically, as they don't trust the security of the system!)

To be fair, I have my refunds directly deposited but mail my payments, too. I want to be sure the money doesn't come out any sooner than I'm ready for it to come out, even though you can specify the date for an automatic payment.
