Gambling

April 23rd, 2011 at 03:36 am

My husband and I are leaving for Las Vegas in a few days. This is a planned trip. Our first time visit, too!

We might do a little gambling. Or not. It does seems like cash is flying out the window with DH's return. It would be nice to win some. But my hopes are not high.

Have you been to Las Vegas? Did you gamble and win? Tell me about it.

    Have fun!!

Vegas is a pretty cheap trip to us. It's close and the hotel deals are a steal. We usually attend the time share presentations - the rewards are pretty lucrative. I've also stayed at several NICE hotels for $30-ish a night over the years.

My husband is the type to play $40 (total) all night long at the tables (pai gow poker and blackjack - better odds than most the rest). I'll do nickel slots. I do NOT like the tables. Our friends got me hooked on Keno.

We don't gamble big so we never win big!

P.S. We mostly like walking around and seeing all the sights. Pigging out at the buffets.

I just saw that you can zip line through Fremont Street. Supposedly $20. Sounds like a steal!

There are some beautiful parks nearby -- Valley of Fire and Red Rock Canyon are both worth seeing if you get out of the casinos.

Enjoyed 3 nights, 4 days of great weather mid March; the strip was incredibly busy, wall to wall people. We walked miles, saw several terrific shows, played slots about $20. - $30. a session and called it entertainment. Food wasn't as good as we remembered and we only managed one 'special' dinner from strip to Fremont St. show. DH loved the zip-line, the free show was better than we expected and drinks were waaay cheaper. Tourists seemed much more relaxed and friendlier. Someone gave us tickets for steak dinner and we happened to go on 1/2 price night, it was good and cost $8. including drinks.

I found it difficult to find trinkets to bring home for friends; they were either cheap and sleazy or expensive and sleazy. I had planned to go to a mall but time slide away.

@jeffrey: I think we are going to go to Red Rock Canyon.

@monkeymama: My hairdresser mentioned that zipline. Might have to check it out and at least watch others do it!

Been there...if you are coffee drinkers, it might be worth it to buy a cheap pot for your room...coffee can be expensive!

I am not a big gambler. I enjoy watching the action...and seeing the free sites, which there are many of.

One thing to watch out for are the creepy people handing out things on the sidewalks...X-rated, and disgusting.

    Have fun!!!

Don't forget Hoover Dam! It was a long time ago that I was there with my family (maybe 20 years ago??) but I remember that there was lots of free entertainment - light shows, etc.

    Have a blast!
