Feeling Anxious

December 27th, 2015 at 02:36 pm

I go through periods of time feeling anxious. It's usually the mind going through all sorts of crazy scenarios that I have no control over.

Today, I'm primarily anxious for my older daughter to be flying alone (she has flown without us, but with a group) to visit us. I think it is more about the weather as the Midwest is about to get slammed with a snowstorm. She flys out very early tomorrow morning going through Saint Louis. If the flights are all on time it will be no big deal. It's if there are delays that I'm concerned. So prayers and good vibes are appreciated in the next 24 hours.

I'm also feeling anxious about making financial plans for the next year. Some of the decisions are easy. Save for retirement and college. I think I'd really like to make sure I have a firm savings plan for all the things we want to do in the next year. And I know that some of the reason that is hard is because I don't know exactly what we want to do. What are our priorities?

So that's where I stand today. I think if I can do a little brainstorming of ideas first that will help my brain calm down a bit. And then eventually I would need to discuss numbers with my husband. It will work out. I just know that if I throw out some random goals without knowing where the money comes from and if we can save enough in time that I will probably just fail. I don't want to fail!! And no I don't really think I will fail. It's just the feeling of it.

Do you get anxious about making goals, financial or other?

I get anxious when my kids are traveling in bad weather or on half way across the country trips. I think that anxiety just makes other ones crop up. When she's home safe and sound the money stuff will fall into place, I bet.(I hope.)

I would worry about my child traveling in bad weather, too. I think she will be okay, though, if it is an early flight.

I think it's easy to feel anxious about goals before you start - there's so much possibility. It's a blessing and a curse. Once you get started, though, I'm sure that anxiety will calm quite a bit. Good luck!

Mine is traveling from St Louis to St Paul this morning, driving. The weather map looks better right now than it did when I looked last night. There have been a lot of weather tragedies in the last four days, though. Frown

@JOA, I bet your child will make it okay. Mine is leaving at 6am tomorrow, right now showing a light wintry mix (so I could see a delay), but I'm going to hope for dry conditions until her flight leaves.

I think she should be okay - she'll be leaving towards the start of the snowstorm it looks like.

I do get the anxiety about not knowing how certain things are going to happen / if they are going to happen. The waiting to know one way or the other is the worst. But what I try to do is to make plans/goals as if one scenario works out - then if something changes, I just have to adjust those plans/goals. That way I'm still at least moving forward one way or the other.

Yes, right now I'm thankful I booked her on an early flight. Just praying the storms stalls just enough to make sure the flight leaves rather than gets delayed.

Two of my children deal with anxiety. We just got over a bad bout since D was on steroids. Prayers for peace and safe travels. Smile

I have consistent winter weather anxiety. We drove through a nasty rain/snow mix on Wednesday and lots of rain coming home yesterday. On Wednesday I put my head in a pillow and did some praying, but I'd be less nervous flying. Those pilots know what they're doing. Let us know when she arrives safely!
I also get financial anxiety after Christmas--even without overspending. I have a pile of things to return this week and plan on some Extra Bucks spending later this afternoon. I think some of it is also related to that big check for the property taxes due to be written this week.

Hope the flight is on time and no problems occur.

Yes, I get nervous about making financial decisions and plans. I have 95 work days left and I'm getting nervous about living on my pension. I know we can handle it, but it seems so final. It is of my choosing, but I worry about everything, unfortunately.

No, I don't get anxious about making goals but I certainly feel anxiety when I don't have enough money to accomplish all that I want.

I have heard it said that most of the things we spend time worry about never happen anyway. I hope your daughter's flight goes well and arrives on time. You're a smart cookie, and I know you will arrive at the right decisions when you are ready.

My daughter did make it home today! She arrived on time. No delays and no weather issues. Our early flight plan seemed to work out perfect!

Yeah the snow didn't really even start til 7, and then we only got maybe 4 inches if that. Smile
