Spending And Important Question!!

October 28th, 2013 at 10:08 pm

I ran errands today. In our town, some of the stores are only available on the other side. A twenty minute drive. I try to combine my shopping when I'm over there. I was hoping to do the Amex offer at Staples where you spend $75 there and get a $25 statement credit. I was going to buy gift cards for one of the stores I need to go to...Petco. Unfortunately, I forgot to bring the Amex card!!

I bought three hair products for my daughter at Ulta. They are each priced at $16. But Redken is nearly always buy 2, get one free. I also had a 20% off coupon, so my total came down to $27.39. Each bottle lasts her one month, so an average of $9+ per month.

The cats were down to their last morsels of food. I went to Petsmart since I'm more familiar with that store. I would have gone to Petco, IF I had remember my Amex card!! I spent about $40 on food that I think lasts about 2 months.

I browsed around in Micheal's craft store, but didn't buy anything. Nothing I needed, even though I saw several things I liked!!

I spent less today because I didn't use the American Express card at Staples to buy gift cards, but the offer is still good for all of November. Maybe longer.

I noticed Walmart was offering the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 4S for 97 cents in our area. I believe both were offered with Verizon. That is who we have for our cell plans. My husband and I need to upgrade soon as we are losing battery power fast these days. If we all upgrade it will cost at least $120, since Verizon charges a $30 upgrade fee. Boo. I will have to go into the store to hear more about the offer in person.

This is probably a loaded question, but iPhone or Samsung Galaxy? Which is better and why?

I think it is really a matter of choice and what you find easier to use. I posed this question on facebook when I upgraded and it was split. I went with the IPhone for two reasons. The first is that is what my girls have and I figured if I had questions or problems, they would be the best to answer them (and they have) you know how tech savy teenagers are these days! I also had an ITouch and the screen is very similar so I found my new phone very easy to work and navigate.

I have the 4S and I REALLY like it Smile

I also did NOT do the update they just had and I am glad I didn't. Almost everyone I know that has, has hated it. I personally do not like the new look. I am not sure though if now, you would have the new look with a new phone automatically. My girls like it however, but I have several friends that don't and were bummed they did the update (you can't change it back). I had one friend who thought you had to, but I checked and you don't.

Good luck! Be sure and let us know what you end up getting!

I like that you know how long the supplies last.

For large purchases of dish soap, laundry detergent, dryer sheets, I try and date them because I am curious how long it takes to use them. It takes me about a year to use 500 dryer sheets.

As u know I recently upgraded to the S3 from an old iPhone and I love it so far. As the lady at my Wal-Mart told me u have 15 days to try it and if not u can return it so maybe that's an option for u. Sorry u forgot the AMEX card Frown

Before you upgrade, look in to the Wal-Mart Smart Talk plan. If you only have two phones, it should be cheaper than the equivalent carrier plan. If you have three or four phones, the carriers might be cheaper.

I prefer Apple because of Facetime. It's very easy for DW and I to chat, which we do every morning and evening. Since we're both on Wi-fi, it's absolutely free from Dubai to Houston. I have Skype, as well, but the call quality is almost always worse, and it drops connection at least as often as Facetime. We use Skype on our computers when Facetime is acting up.

I had an Android phone early on. I wasn't too happy with its set up, but it is definitely more malleable than Apple. If you or hubby is a techie, you might prefer the accessibility of the Galaxy. If you're tech-averse, then the Apple is good for you, because it's so locked down, you can't change most things, even if you hate them. Case in point, the upgrade to the latest Apple operating system is getting very bad reviews from migraine sufferers. The backgrounds are all white, which is very glaring, and glare often is a trigger for migraines. Apple really screwed up not giving folks the option to keep the old look. I have not upgraded and have no plans to upgrade until they fix the look of the included apps.

Wino, thanks for your review and opinion! It is much appreciated. Facetime would be nice for when my husband is out of town, but that new OS sounds awful. We will look at the Smart Talk plan, but we do have four phones in our household.

Smart Talk is about $40 per phone (plus, no doubt, some fees). The upside is that it's completely unlimited except for international dialing. Another downside is if you travel (and you just said DH does). The coverage area isn't as good as some other plans, and roaming doesn't always work. Since DW pretty much stays around Houston, Smart Talk is perfect for her. We pay $40ish per month and she can use Siri, Safari, GPS... pretty much anything at any time.

The new OS is not being completely panned, but it's also set up with pretty colors. Basically, it's been redesigned for kids, and female kids, at that. Business users hate it, because it looks like a toy now, and I'm not talking about the new cases, but the new OS.

I have an s2 and want to upgrade to s4, but will wait for a deal but can't compare as never been tempted by an apple :-) I use Skype to call UK from Aus regularly - not sure we'd do facetime anyway as I'm usually pottering around (there video on sk but it can be laggy).Love google maps and navigation (free). What chargers/accessories do you have? I like spares which makes me more reluctant to swap?

I really love my iphone. I just have the 4, but I love what I can do with it. And Facetime really is a cool feature.

I have (and love) the iPhone 4S. On my iPad I upgraded to the new iOS, and while it took a bit of getting used to, I do like it. On my phone I haven't upgraded because I've heard it caused some battery issues on older phones.

If I bought the iPhone4 now would it have the original operating system or the upgraded one? Anyone know?

I don't know, but maybe if you bought it off Craigslist or Ebay then you could make sure it had the old iOS AND not have to be locked into a contract.
