My Frugal Birthday

November 17th, 2012 at 03:57 pm

I'm 40 today. My husband has to work for the army. My girls are home. We will make a lemon cake with lemon frosting to mark the day.

I find as I get older, I'm simply grateful for life and the prospect of many more days ahead to spend with those I love. I don't need fancy gifts or meals to know that I am loved.

How do you prefer to mark the day of your birth? Is it frugal?

Happy birthday! I was the 15th! We're celebrating tomorrow (at home) with my parents bringing pizza and cake. I'm right there with you on the attitude of gratitude.

Happy Birthday, enjoy the day, let the girls paper you a bit. Some years I've banished the guys, had girlfriends over [Sunday] for an old fashioned 'spa' day. Facials, manicures, pedicures, icy cold wine or iced tea and sandwiches with the crust removed like gran set out for high tea.

Happy Birthday! There are lots of end-of-year B-days on SA. Mine is in a couple of weeks.

Our tradition is Marie Callendar's lemon cream cheese pie (basically lemon cheesecake). I am on the same wavelength with the lemon!

    Happy Birthday!

Mine is coming up here shortly. I like to treat myself on my birthdays, so this year will go eat somewhere (must have cheesecake on my birthday!!) and either take in a movie or go bowling. Smile So not really frugal, but it's not something I do often. Smile
I do have to say though that I'm going to really miss my annual phone call/funny birthday card from my dad. Sigh.

Happy Birthday--I remember when I was a teen and a friend's mom said that for Mother's Day she wanted a clean house and two nice girls. I thought that was SO boring; now, I have to agree!

Happy birthday! The lemon cake with lemon frosting sounds like it will lead to a delicious little celebration. Smile At our house, we have been living in separate countries since July, and my birthday is in December. If I can have some insurance of being in the same place with my wife and two little girls by my birthday (waiting on family unification visas), that will be more than enough for me. OK, maybe a little Swiss chocolate, as well... but I will share. Smile Jerry

Thank you ALL, for the wonderful birthday wishes!

@Jerry, I wish for you that your family can be together on your birthday. It is hard to be apart.

Happy belated birthday! It is the one day I plan on eating out and so I do and enjoy every last morsel of food. I always see it as the start of a new year filled with positive possibilities. Hope you do as well.

Ah, I'm late to the party?! I always wish for a hike on a trail on my early spring season birthday. Give me nature or give me --- oh nevermind! It also fulfills my goal to be active and exercise, sometimes difficult to fit in the family schedule. If the kids and husband join me, all the better. But I've done it solo too!! And the same wish happens on Mother's day.

Belated happy birthday. The feelings of satisfaction, appreciation and love are gifts that many yearn for. I can imagine how special the day must have felt.

Happy belated birthday too! I was born on Thanksfiving day so I celebrate by NOT cooking!
