Extra Principal Payment to Truck Loan

October 2nd, 2012 at 02:32 pm

As planned, I made an extra principal payment to our truck loan in the amount of $230.05. This is the difference in our mortgage payment because of the lower escrow withholding.

The new balance is 7667.07!! Moving right along.

That's excellent! Are you going to do that every month? My DH and I paid off my three year vehicle loan in 10 months. That was in 2006 and still drive that vehicle today.

    Big Grin
What is the next goal in mind once that puppy is gone?!

Yes, we plan to do this every month! Might be done in about 15 months.

Oh, Laura, I don't know yet! I know that a teen car, braces and college are getting closer and closer. And I'd love to just have more savings in general.

Got to love that! On the braces in your comment above I just wanted to share. If you can save up the cash to pay in full ask if there is a discount for paying in full up front. Just don't bring it up until you have the price of the treatment plan in full. We saved 10% by paying in full upfront. Braces are spendy so 10% helped

@Blessed, excellent reminder. We did pay for older daughters braces in full and received a 5% discount. It all helps! I think younger daughter will need less work, fingers crossed.

As far as braces our ortho offer a $200 discount but make sure you are going to an in plan provider with your dental insurance. The overall price dropped $1000 with that which who knows if that is actually the case (dentists are like snake oil salesmen to me) we do our through the FSA account.

I would also suggest putting some money away once you get the car paid off for a car replacement fund and we were able to buy our next car with no loan.
