Purge Challenge: Day 6

October 25th, 2011 at 02:07 pm

Everyday, I'm surprised at what I find to toss from our home. I actually recycle all the time, so I'm not including too many of those items. All the paper is from going through my file cabinet.

Here is today's list:
1 diet book
1 cd
1 door stop
16 pieces of paper
1 vacuum tool
2 hangers
1 package of freezer burned hot dog buns
1 package expired flax seed
2 bottles of dye
1 bottle expired vinegar
1 bolt

The total for today is 28 items! I made it. I hope I can make it for two more days. Are you finding this task challenging or is it a breeze for you? Let me know.

Yesterday I had no time to throw things out - the best I did was give 27 fliers of a school board candidate to a neighbor who was out doorbelling for her.

Today I resorted to cheating by tearing off used sheets of paper from spiral-bound notebooks and throwing away dead batteries.

@Paulette: In my book, it all counts and is good. Keep up the good work!

I didn't have time yesterday to purge, but on Sunday evening after i posted the day's tossed booty, i continued sorting and tossed at least another 27 items from my desk, so that will count for monday. i took today off, so i just went through a hall closet and hall storage dresser and found 27 items to get rid of for today's challenge, including at least eight old phone books - yikes! the thing i'm learning most is how much i hesitate in getting rid of things (i might need that, it's still good, etc.) somehow, i'm still living out my grandparents experience in the Great Depression! i can be quite the hoarder, although if you visited my house, you wouldn't be able to tell. i'm an organized hoarder!! thanks again for the inspiration to toss!

@starfishy: Whoa. 8 phone books. Glad you knew that was overkill. Great job! I'm definitely not a hoarder, but I have been a little surprised at some things I was keeping that were completely unnecessary.
