No Spend Month

March 26th, 2011 at 03:00 pm

As I said earlier in the month, the no spend month still has spending. It seems that it has primarily been food. I intended to only buy food we need at the moment. However, yesterday I made an exception and stocked up on pizza crusts that were on sale for 4 for $1. I thought I would buy 12 but ended up with only 8 since I needed another item and wanted to use the cash I had in my wallet rather than my debit card.

Balance Forward: $508.41
Gift Purchase: (9.53)
Cash Gift (50.00)
Prescription (22.00)
Grocery Purchase (69.00)
Birthday Eats (30.86)
Grocery Purchases (6.66)
Previous Balance: $320.36

Grocery Purchase: (3.47)
New Balance: $316.89

Is anyone else getting tired of my spending posts? I am!! At least the month is almost over. And even better it seems I will have saved some cash.

I'm not tired of reading them. I am inspired by your creativity in figuring out how to get what you need for your family without spending a lot. Doing a challenge like this makes you really pay attention to where you are spending money. I see the pizza crusts as a very smart buy. After all, you could buy the rest of the fixings to make pizzas and have very frugal pizzas rather than calling for delivery. Congratulations for doing so well. You are not too far from having your truck fund fully funded.

It has been an interesting month. I am considering one for April, what are your rules beyond buying food?

@debtfreeme: My rules were simply not to buy anything unnecessary. Food bought at the grocery store, gas and anything necessary were okay to purchase. I did have to put an exception in for this month to be able to purchase my daughters birthday gifts, dinner and treats. I can't say I did the month perfect, but there were plenty of things we didn't buy!

I think that is a great price for pizza crusts, and it would lead me to pull the trigger on the purchase as well! The grocery store near us just stopped carrying pizza crusts (inexplicably) and we really miss them. It's comfort food for when we feel homesick for the States, and it was the one insurance of a quick and satisfying meal when things get busy... oh well!
