October is Expensive

October 9th, 2010 at 03:12 pm

I always forget that October is an expensive month for us. Auto insurance renewal. Car registrations. Homeowner's insurance renewal. Hubby's birthday. Birthdays of four relatives. Halloween. It also seems to be the month where we really need to buy the warmer clothes.

It's definitely an outflow month for us. I save all year for the insurance and registrations...so no big deal. Halloween, we just minimize as best we can. I'm on the look out for some good clothing buys. Old Navy seems to be the go to place for us. Sales galore right now.

How is October for you?

Ouch is all I can say for you. Wow, you do have a lot coming due in October. It's painful when car insurance and home insurance come at the same time...we have that in the spring and I just dread it.

September is my worst month I think. August is bad but September is worse. After this weekend, October will be half over, so hopefully it passes quickly for you.

3 paychecks this year, so not bad. I did pay our property taxes. The bill comes this month, but not due until December 10th. I paid all of it instead of 1 installment(second installment due 4/15).

OUCH! that is A LOT due in one month!!! If this happens every year, you might want to consider adding it all up and dividing by 12...then, starting next month, put that 1/12 into an earmarked account and continue for the year. My mom had the same thing happen, but in December..double ouch! Good luck!!!

Yes, I do escrow and save monthly for both insurance bills and the auto registration. The birthday and halloween...I probably could but I just make due and it always works out. In fact I probably spend less because I have limited funds!

I save weekly for home insurance, car insurances, property tax and car tags, so I will always have the money on hand!

A 3 paycheck month and I/we DON'T "do" Halloween, so, all in all, October is a great month moneywise. On the other hand, September is a VERY spendy month.
