Mother's Day Gifts

April 29th, 2010 at 08:26 am

Mother's Day is just over a week away. It is on Sunday, May 9. Time to start thinking about how to acknowledge your mother.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of this Hallmark invented holiday. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate my mom. But why do we all have to thank and appreciate them on the same day? I'm a mom myself, and I'm still not a fan of the holiday!!

I do usually get my mom a card and a small gift. This year she will be receiving 4 handmade (by me) coasters and some loose leaf tea. I'm guessing this will cost me less than $15.

As I write this, I realize I bought her coasters about three years ago that have pictures of my daughters in them. I think she uses them as small framed pictures instead of coasters.

This year, the coasters are the right thing. She was eyeing the ones I made for myself. So I think she will enjoy that I made some for her, too. I hope she likes the fabric. If not, more can be made. And she loves tea, so I can't go wrong there!

Are you buying or making a gift for your mom to celebrate the day of mothers?

My mother is visiting me from states away for Mother's day. I want to do something special with her quality time wise. I am not sure yet but I would like to take her out to a pretty park picnic and play bocce balls or something. I tend to make my own gift cards so I most likely will make one for her.

I agree -- I despise Mother's Day and Father's Day. Like you, I love my parents and cherish them, but these commercialized "holidays" are senseless. I show my love for my parents all the time... don't need a special day designated for this purpose. I feel like I HAVE to buy them and DH's parents something and that shouldn't be the case, in my opinion. But alas, it's a losing battle so I just conform to society.

To answer your question, I will buy gifts (as always) since neither my mom nor my mother-in-law is into the homemade sentiment. Ugh.

We hate manufactured holidays and don't play along. I'm not buying anything nor expecting anything. Big Grin

May I ask if you have a way to put plastic inside or under the fabric to really stop moisture from getting through the coasters? I'd like to make coasters but think I need a plastic barrier. I don't know what plastic to use. Hmmm, maybe something from the recycling bin. I use just a piece of heavy mylar under my coffee cup here beside the computer, but I'd rather not pass around empty Tide detergent sample packaging to guests. Wink Ehh--well, maybe.

I made my mom (and BF's mom) both cards for mother's day. Not sure if I'll be getting her anything else from all the way over here in AZ! We're both broke anyway, though... lol.

I'm sending a little luxury, a handmade soap gift box. No calorie, lasts long, and something everyone uses! I absolutely love handmade soap for the amazing smells, skin effects, etc.

I requested this crafter to do a box for a total cost of $20 which includes 3 full size bars, a couple samples, a card, great wrapping AND shipping.

    Tutti Fruity Confetti
