American Red Cross today. This is an organization that we feel good about donating to because they help all people regardless of race or religion. They provide a critical role to US military families as well.

There are many ways to donate without laying out the cash in your pocket. You can donate airline miles and hotel rewards. You can give blood. You can even send instant messages to your friends and Microsoft will donate funds on your behalf (sign up

If you have some spare change you can turn it in at a Coinstar machine and request it be donated to the Red Cross, one of several organizations. Find a location

After 9/11, we donated on a monthly basis to the Red Cross for at least a year. I had it set up to send automatically through bill pay I believe. I'm not sure why we stopped. I need to get that started again!

That is a very worthy organization to donate to.

DH asked me this AM how much we contributed to Hurricane Katrina Relief and I didn't remember. I do remember it was $100 after 9/11. Have to make our donation today too.

Wonderful suggestions! We need to make our donation here as well. I just can't decide how much to send. No amount seems like enough, even though I know every penny counts. I'll decide by morning.

I am amazed how Americans keep digging into their pockets to give! Not just with this latest disaster, but even here in my city, a fire station had a broken door and a broken heater. These poor guys were using a wood stove to keep warm!! A local garage door company fixed their door and Lowes donated electrical and flooring stuff and someone else is installing and someone else worked on their furnace! Even our Salvation Army made its goal for the holiday season.

I made my donation to the American Red Cross through my Spirit Airlines account; and then Spirit Airlines gave me 5000 points for doing that. That is enough points to buy a plane ticket. I really don't fly, but someone (family or friend) will be able to use that sometime this year. If I don't use it, I will donate it to the Make-A-Wish foundation for a sick child to use.
